Clomiphene (Clomid) and follicle tracking
At CRGW our Clomiphene (Clomid) and follicle tracking package is a cost effective treatment option designed to help patients who:
The treatment involves performing ultrasound scans to follow the development of the ‘follicles’ in your ovaries. A follicle is a fluid-filled sac that contains an egg. We give you a tablet called Clomid (Clomiphene) to make your eggs grow.
We then perform ultrasound scans to watch your egg(s) grow. When scans tell us that you are about to ovulate you then need to have timed sexual intercourse within 24-48 hours.
The reason for doing the scans is to make sure that your ovaries are responding and you are growing at least one egg. Also to make sure that your ovaries are not developing more than 3 eggs, as this would put you at risk multiple pregnancy.
Two weeks after ovulation and timed intercourse you do a urinary pregnancy test and let us know the result. If it is positive, we will book a pregnancy assessment scan 2-3 weeks later
Clomid will usually make you ovulate unless there is some other problem, for example if your ovaries are running out of eggs, or you are overweight or your ovaries are too resistant to medication. However, after your consultation you must have tests first to make sure there is no other reason for infertility, such as poor sperm or blocked Fallopian tubes.
An abandoned cycle due to under / over response to medication is counted as a cycle of treatment.
